Weight Loss - How to Overcome the Weight Loss Plateau

Have you been doing everything you've been told in order to lose weight? Have you been exercising and eating healthy to try to lose those extra pounds, and the scale doesn't seem to be showing the hard work you've put in? Well don't give up quite yet because hitting a weight loss "wall" may be just a sign showing you that you need to change something up. There a few helpful tips which can help with this.

#1- Start doing weight loss measurements in a different way than using a scale. Take measurements using a measuring tape. Take measurements around your arms, legs, hips, waist, and stomach. Jot those measurements down and continue to take those measurements weekly. The best ways to take measurements is to use calipers to take fat percentage and to measure your BMI (body mass index). If you don't know how to do this yourself, seek out your local dietitian or nutritionist. Hopefully then you should see good results that the scale may not be showing.

#2- Change up you workout routine. You may have just hit a plateau in your workout. If you have been doing the same exercises for more than a month, it's time to switch it up. Let's say you've been walking on the treadmill everyday for a month, try riding the bike or even just raising the incline on the treadmill in order to make walking harder. You also need to switch up your weight lifting routine and start doing different exercises. Both of these will help stimulate your muscles and body in order to start burning more calories.

#3- Keep a journal on everything you do from your workouts, eating habits, measurements, even sleep. Doing this will give you a better understanding of what things need to be changed and what things can be improved.

In conclusion, plateaus aren't such a bad thing after all. It's just your body telling you that it needs a change in order to keep moving forward. So when thinking of how to change exercise in order to get over the plateau, just think about changing the length, intensity, or the type of exercise you're doing. These should help break down the barrier and get your body back into a fat burning machine.
